collaging

Three little collages this week - the first two are 5x7" and the last one is 8x10". I had an idea to put some kind of texture in the background of a collage, so I did some watercolor washes with a big flat brush. It's one of my grandma's watercolor brushes so I feel like it fits with my themes even though all you can see on the paper is an abstract wash :)

It's good to use the things I inherited from her - makes me remember her but not in a sad way.

i love how all of these flow and counterbalance each other so well... it's like you can see a progression through each image. beautiful!

Thanks, Leah! I feel like it's a progression, too...I get an idea and then I have to try it to work it out :)

lovely work. i think the wash is perfect. i like the feeling of having a background that doesn't dominate the piece, just adds to it.

It seems like my experiments in creating a background texture that doesn't dominate usually turn out not so good. I like this look, though...thinking about how to use a wash-y effect in other pieces.
