Exhibiting in Seattle

I'm booked in to hang art at a furniture store in Ballard - yay!  The scary part?  The art walk that I need to be ready for is Saturday.  In school we talked about getting ready for exhibitions in terms of months, not days.  I'm going to be framing like crazy this week :)

So if anyone wants to come down and check out what looks like a fun art walk, I'll be at Skarbos and the other venues should be listed here (although at the moment it's showing an older map).  Saturday (10 Oct.) from 6-9 pm.

Bits of paper

More paper and glue.  I printed out some images from a gardening book and this is a cut-up drawing of a dianthus.

Neutral

Similar to the last oil on panel, but no color this time.  I had intended to use color blended around the lines like the last one but for some reason it felt like it needed to just be gray.  The pencil lines are drawn into the wet paint and it's interesting the way the graphite dissolves on contact with the paint.

I love these panels so much and I think they look great on the wall, but I don't know if I can use them with paper to either draw on or collage onto the wood.  It seems like the canvas and oil paint can handle being exposed but I worry that any kind of paper would be a problem.  Maybe I should experiment with paper and draw some lines on it, then coat it with acrylic medium and see if it stands up to a little wear and tear.  I'd love to be able to mount things to the panels besides just canvas.

Finished watercoloring

Here's that drawing from last week, finally with color.  I think I'm learning to love watercolor paper again after losing interest in it for a while.  I love the unpredictable results I get on Yupo but sometimes I want the drawing to stand out a little more.

My creative space

This is a drawing (soon to be a painting) on watercolor paper.  The tree is a red alder that grows tiny little miniature cones but the cones from this year are still little green blobby things.  I especially love all the holes that are nibbled into all the leaves.

Saturday shopping with Belinda

Belinda very kindly added one of my drawings to her Saturday Shopping list this week.  I'm delighted to be included in such a lovely list!  Thanks, Belinda, and I look forward to seeing your picks every week :)

New shoes

The horseshoer (or farrier, if you prefer) came up to trim Boo's feet today.  He was joking that her shoes were worn so thin that after one more ride you could shave with them.  He was exaggerating, of course, but I felt very pleased that I've been able to ride her enough to wear out her shoes.  I've definitely been trying to make up for all that lost time when I was writing papers.
